Creative Coaching

Creative Coaching coaching creatives

I work with early and mid-career artists and creatives to find and maintain freedom in creative thinking, making, and living.

Are you seeking to find freedom or to maintain freedom in your creative practice, in the process, production, presentation and dissemination?

Do you want to step lightly and elegantly through your ideas and decisions?

Do you want to

  • Fulfill your creative potential
  • Successfully navigate your creative journey
  • Break free from creative limitations
  • Embrace new opportunities in your creative practice
  • Thrive in the art world
  • Pursue your unique vision

My approach is collaborative—you will lead, and I will follow. I will encourage and support you to wander into your thoughts while I listen deeply in a way you may have never experienced before, because coaching is a very different kind of conversation. Along the way, I will ask perceptive, timely, and thought-provoking questions that expand your perspective and shift unconscious patterns, limiting beliefs, and ingrained mindsets.

We might find powerful and empowering images, stumble upon crucial storylines, or encounter weird and wonderful characters. We might reach for new words and compose new phrases, walk backward from the future, talk to empty chairs, and create things from what’s at hand. We might draw, paint, or model; move, dance, or lay down; breathe together; or simply talk. Whatever we do will be your choice; you will be invited to say yes or no to any tool or technique I might offer, any approach or direction I might suggest. The coaching session will be your time, your space, your work, your way.

I believe you know the answers to your own questions. You are the specialist on yourself. You are creative, resourceful, and whole. I simply provide the framework and trust the process.

I believe that when we focus on finding and maintaining freedom, we can live an entirely new and different creative life and beyond. This emphasis on freedom is essential because many artists like you often face restrictions or expectations that block or hold you back. I know this personally, as I have experienced the small-minded thinking that shrinks opportunities, limits creativity, and crushes possibilities.

Looking back over the 30 years I have been an artist, the most creative and productive periods that stand out in sharp, bright focus are those where I allowed myself to simply play—without judgment and without expectation. I set up the conditions, gathered my tools, stepped into the space, and played with absolute, uncompromised freedom.

How do you create a space that encourages this sense of freedom for them?

Do you have any favorite techniques or themes in your questioning that you’ve found especially effective in fostering these shifts?

What kind of questions do you find most effective in helping artists open up new possibilities or shift their mindset?

How do you typically go about supporting artists in this way? Do you have a specific process or set of tools you use to guide them?
